PF and ESI Return Filing: what you should know

Monthly cycle

Each month, you file the PF ECR and pay contributions, generally by the 15th of the following month, and pay ESI contributions on or before the 15th. Delay attracts interest and damages. Annual returns and reconciliation also apply where required.

Common errors

Employees missing in the file, wage mismatches against payroll, wrong UAN or ESIC number, and delayed deposits. We reconcile payroll against the statutory file before filing.

Exits and new joiners

Record the exit date of leavers and add joiners promptly so that transfers and withdrawal claims work for employees.
