Zoho Books Partner in India: GST Workflows, Migration and the First 30 Days
The right Zoho Books partner is judged less by the logo and more by how well your GST, TDS and bank workflows run in the first month. This guide shows what to test, how migration should work and how to plan the first 30 days.
- GST workflow tests you can run in a demo
- Migration approach for Tally and spreadsheets
- A dated first-30-days plan
How do I choose a Zoho Books partner in India?
Choose a Zoho Books partner by testing your own GST, TDS and bank scenarios in a demo, checking the partner in Zoho's directory, asking for a named consultant and agreeing a written migration plan with acceptance tests. Keep your Chartered Accountant involved from the start so tax settings are reviewed.
Guide
Choosing a Zoho Books partner for Indian compliance
Run your own scenarios in the demo
A polished demo uses easy data. Bring five real transactions that have caused trouble in the past and ask the partner to record them live.
- An inter-state sale to an unregistered customer
- A purchase where input credit is blocked or reversed
- A vendor bill with TDS on professional fees
- A credit note issued after the month in which the invoice was raised
- A customer payment received in a foreign currency
How they reason through each case tells you more than any feature list.
Migration: three realistic routes
- From Tally: export masters and balances, clean duplicates, import and reconcile the trial balance on the cut-off date. Bringing years of transactions is usually unnecessary; opening balances plus open bills often suffice.
- From spreadsheets: structure the data first, since errors hide easily in spreadsheets. Budget extra time for customer and item masters.
- From another cloud tool: exports are cleaner, but mapping of taxes and accounts still needs a human decision.
Whatever the route, agree the cut-off date and who signs off the opening trial balance. Most disputes later trace back to an unsigned opening position.
GST workflows to confirm
- Multiple GSTINs and branches, with correct state for each
- Invoice numbering series that follows your legal requirements
- E-invoicing and e-way bill handling for the cases that apply to you
- Matching purchases with GSTR-2B and handling items not found
- Treatment of reverse charge purchases
- Reports your CA needs for return filing, such as rate-wise summaries
Rules and thresholds change. Ask the partner to show the current screens rather than describe them from memory, and ask your CA to confirm the settings.
Banking, TDS and approvals
Bank feeds reduce typing but still need rules. Ask how the partner sets up matching rules for recurring items such as rent, salary and loan EMIs. For TDS, check that sections are chosen by transaction, that deducted amounts show up in a payable account and that your CA can pull a section-wise report. For approvals, define who may create, approve and pay bills, then configure it before go-live.
A dated first-30-days plan
- Week 1: sign the scope, collect masters and last trial balance, create the organisation in your own name.
- Week 2: configure taxes, accounts and templates, import opening balances, CA reviews tax settings.
- Week 3: train users, connect banks, run a parallel week with live transactions.
- Week 4: reconcile, compare GST working with the old method, fix gaps and agree the support plan.

Test list for a Zoho Books partner
Turn the demo into evidence. Ask the partner to complete each test and note the result.
| Test | What a good answer looks like | Pass or fail |
|---|---|---|
| Inter-state sale to a consumer | Correct tax split and place of supply on the invoice | Record result |
| Purchase with TDS | Deduction posted to a payable account and visible in reports | Record result |
| Credit note after month end | Linked to original invoice and reflected in the right return period | Record result |
| GSTR-2B mismatch | Clear process to accept, hold or reverse input credit | Record result |
| Opening trial balance | Agrees to the last closing balance with a written reconciliation | Record result |
| Access control | Owner is admin, accountant has limited role, partner access is time-bound | Record result |

FAQ
Questions about Zoho Books Partner in India
How do I choose among Zoho Books partners in India?
Test your own scenarios in a demo, check the directory listing, ask for the named consultant and compare written scopes with acceptance tests.
Which Zoho Books partner is best in India?
The best partner is the one that fits your size and industry and can show relevant migrations. Avoid choosing on a ranking or a badge alone.
Can a Zoho Books partner handle GST?
A partner can configure GST in the software. Return filing and tax positions are normally handled by your Chartered Accountant, so involve them early.
Can a partner migrate data from Tally?
Yes, usually with masters and opening balances, and sometimes with transactions. Agree the cut-off date and sign off the opening trial balance.
What does Zoho Books implementation cost?
It depends on entities, data volume, integrations and training. Request a written, itemised scope rather than a headline number.
Does the partner need to be in my city?
Not necessarily. Remote delivery works well for most set-ups. Local presence helps for on-site training or complex change management.
Who should own the Zoho Books organisation?
You should. Create it in your name or your company's name and grant the partner time-bound access.
How long does a Zoho Books go-live take?
Simple businesses can go live in a few weeks. Multiple GSTINs, inventory or integrations take longer. Ask for a dated plan.
