What is CSR-1 registration?

CSR-1 is an e-form filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs by entities that want to undertake CSR activities for companies. After approval the entity receives a CSR registration number. The entity must already hold a PAN and 12A and 80G registration, where applicable.

Guide

CSR-1 Registration: what you should know

What CSR-1 registration is

Entities that want to carry out CSR activities, and implementing agencies such as trusts, societies and Section 8 companies, must register with the MCA by filing Form CSR-1 to obtain a unique CSR registration number. Companies funding CSR check that their implementing partner holds this number.

Who needs it

Eligible implementing agencies need a valid 12A and 80G registration, as applicable, and must file the form with a certified professional's certificate. Without it, a company's CSR contribution to that agency may not be recognised.

After registration

Maintain utilisation records, impact reports where required and the agency's regular filings. Companies reviewing partners will ask for these.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying without a valid 12A or 80G
  • Wrong or missing attachments in CSR-1
  • Not keeping utilisation records
